Leadership:

Renee Sher (Founder, Science Education Director and Owner)

Renee Sher (Mrs. S) is the founder, curriculum developer, science expert and teacher.  Her personal inspiration for teaching science to children propelled the business from an idea to a reality.

She recalls, with complete clarity, an elementary school teacher who opened her eyes to the excitement of science, and kindled her lifelong science focus. After receiving a B.S. in molecular biology at San Jose State, she worked in biotech, starting work in a clean room, then in the lab.  Her career continued with Oral-B, first in the quality assurance labs, then in the regulatory compliance department.

The Sher’s first child, Ben, was born in late 1995, and Jessica came along in 1998.  Renee stayed home, immersing herself in the local community surrounding her children.  In 2000 she threw a birthday party for Ben and 20 of his friends, and the theme was science.  The kindergartners and their parents were impressed.  That summer, free science lessons were held for those children, and the next school year, Renee moved into the schools.

 Robert Sher (CEO and Owner)

A seasoned executive with nearly 25 years of operating experience as a CEO, his focus is all things business at S is for Science. His work with the company is on an as needed basis, and is complementary to his consulting practice, CEO to CEO (www.ceotoceo.biz ), focused on collaborating with CEOs and business leaders in their key decisions and projects.

Mr. Sher is the author of The Feel of the Deal: How I Built a Business through Acquisitions, published in 2007.  He authors columns on business in four periodicals and a blog.  He is a speaker for audiences of entrepreneurs, executives, business owners and C-level executives.

Robert was CEO/President and a founder of Bentley Publishing Group. He was at the helm from 1984 through 2006, and this industry-leading decorative poster publishing firm has grown significantly, including four acquisitions since 1999. Between 1995 and 2000, he was a Lecturer under contract with St. Mary’s College, teaching Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management to hundreds of graduate students in the MBA and Executive MBA programs.

Robert Sher received a B.S. in Business and an MBA from St. Mary’s College, where he received the Jack Saloma award.  He is married to Renee and father of two children, Jessica and Ben, and lives in the San Francisco Bay Area.
